The Lesson's We Learn

 Tuesday, July 28, 2009

"...being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ."

Yesterday, I got my arm cast removed, needless to say, I was happy. Scars and stiffness aside, my arm is healing very well- praise the Lord! Now I only have four more weeks of a smaller splint and some physical therapy. Because of all this, I've learned a lot this summer. Since there have been several things I haven't been able to do, I have discovered some things about myself. I have come to realize that I haven't been as thankful for some things (even though I thought I was thankful) as I could have been. I've begun to miss practicing my instruments, having water fights with my sisters, and swinging in swings (yes, I still like to do that). All of those things are relatively simple but all the same, they are something we can all too easily forget to be glad to have. Simply put, I'm saying I've learned some lessons in thankfulness. This morning, I got my violin out and tried to play my Suzuki songs but didn't get far before my fingers were telling me they were tired. Once I can easily move my wrist and arm again, I'm going to challenge myself to be a more thankful musician-after all; I'll have much to praise the Lord for. Take the time to reflect on the smaller things of life, they can be as important as the big things in life.

Great Post! It's an amazing thought. I know I find myself doing the same thing.

How amazing God is! I know how it can be when you have something taken away and then realize how much you use it and need it. Thank Jesus you are healing!

I'm so glad that your arm is doing better!!
I couldn't imagine going so long without my violin... oh, (yeah this is random :D) but what suzuki book are you in?? :D

I liked what you said about being thankful for the simple things in life... you don't really think about such things until you can't have/do them. :D

I am so happy for you that you got your cast off, but I will continue to pray for your complete recovery.
I also enjoy swinging still. : )
I know what you mean about not realizing that we aren't as thankful as we should be. Last year we had some African girls and a woman from Hope for Africa Children's Choir stay in our home for a night, and their thankful attitudes even though they have no earthly possessions (and have been through so much, like losing parents) really opened my eyes to all that I have.

Thanks for posting this, Elizabeth! I've been working on being more thankful for the little things, too!
I'm glad you got your cast off; We've been praying for you!

Thanks for commenting on my blog.:) Why did you need surgery on your arm? I'm curious because I'll probably have to have surgery on my arm too.:( Right now my arm is in a brace and is driving me CRAZY!!!:)

EchoOfMercy July 29, 2009 2:53 PM

In answer to your question about my possible surgery is because I have a deformity in both of my wrists. A few years back I went to a bone doctor and he said that it was called Madelung's deformity & they told me that if it doesn't hurt(which it didn't at the time) to leave it alone. In the past few months my wrist has been hurting so last week I went to see another doctor & he said that it looked like the deformity but he wasn't convinced that's what it is.

So me & my parents are looking for a doctor who is familiar with the deformity and is nearby.
