Fire or ice, which one is it going to be?

*Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice. From what I've tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire...

Here America is, buried under a mountain of snow and environmentalist are claiming it's all because of "global warming." Pardon me if I am mistaken but I thought the "warming" in "global warming" meant that we should be experiencing the chill of record breaking low temperatures. It seems to me like no one can explain to us why we're in a deep chill instead of a colossal thaw and it also seems as though things just aren't lining up in favor of "global warming". But wait, read the following Bible verse.

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
2 Peter 3:10

I believe in one solitary instance of a life-threatening global warming catastrophe; the event that is described in 2 Peter 3:10. However, this melting of the elements and this burning up of the earth is the result of the Lord's instruction and won't be because of our driving cars or excessively populating the earth. This destruction is not just warming-it is heat and fire beyond what we can image, it is the power of God as he eliminates this earth and forms again a new heaven and a new earth. If you're fretting because you think that there actually is "global warming," don't worry about it because God has it all under control and he knows that he's the only one who can cause such a thing to happen. One day this earth is going to be super heated but we're not going to be here to see it, those of us who are Christian's will be in heaven looking on as Jesus Christ engulfs the earth in the blaze of his power.

* The opening quotation is from the poem Fire and Ice by Robert Frost.

Awesome perspective! I couldn't agree with you more. Global warming is simply one more of the media monsters's hobby horses. And I really appreciate the spirit you have brought to your blog. I really can sense the Lord. It really is a blessing!

Very good post, Elizabeth! I have often thought of that verse in relation to global warming, and am so glad to see how you've articulated it :) One day, fire will consume the earth, but it won't be caused by man! :)
