The First Love
Thursday, February 11, 2010
A teddy bear holding a heart engraved with "I love you" peaks out as you pass the seasonal aisle. Chocolate hearts call for your attention and an assortment of Valentine's cards are prominently displayed for starry-eyed passers by; February 14 looms in the very near distance and you're...single. You secretly desire to have a honest to goodness Valentine card from someone special but you know that now isn't the time that God has planned that for you. What's a girl to do as she passes by the seasonal aisle and waits for the young man that God hasn't yet brought her way? The answer is simple but it requires much effort on our part, we are to make Jesus Christ our first love. We are to realize that God loves us more than any person can or will ever love us. While we are waiting for our earthly valentine we need to be concerned with loving the lover of our souls-the one who died so that we might know a deeper and greater love. In his perfect time, and if he so chooses to bless us, he will fulfill our desire for that certain someone but we will never truly be satisfied with an individual until we are first completely satisfied with our Savior. Yes, it is not easy to go through Valentines Day and watch as people receive roses, romantic cards, and teddy bears from their sweetheart but we can remember that we have one valentine that means more than any other. This Valentine died on the cross and wrote "I Love You" written in red.
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
1 John 4:10

How true! There is a challenge going around the blogosphere a bit on this line, have you heard of it? Instead of being low and upset about not having a boyfriend or sweetheart give your valentine's day to someone else. Help out an elderly person, or babysit a couple's kids so they can go out. I think it is a great idea. We girls are so often self-centered. All we care about is ourselves, let's start thinking about others. Let's start thinking about the Lord again.
That was a REALLY great post. So true. It was really encouraging, actually, so thank you. =D

Hello Elizabeth! Thank you for stopping by my blog. You seem like you have such a heart for God! This post on making sure Christ is our first love is so, so important. Often times we forget that he must come first in our lives! When we leave him for less important things, how it must sadden Him. With my sister and I, often we feel compelled to look elsewhere for comfort/love/compassion, especially when we don't have a Dad in our lives. Thank you for the encouragement and reminder.
