In Pursuit of the Gold
Thursday, February 18, 2010
Dedication, practice, and commitment to their passion drive Olympic athletes to compete for the gold. Sometimes an athlete will fall, injure themselves, or fall short; but the best know that when defeat happens-you get back up again to strive for the prize. In some respects, the life of an Olympic athlete can mirror the life of what we Christian's should live. We need dedication to Jesus Christ, we need to study his Word, and be committed to the cause of Christ. In a sense, we Christian's are striving for the gold-the crown that the faithful will receive in heaven. As we strive to lay up our treasure in heaven, we need to ask ourselves an honest question. Each day, are we going for the gold and pursuing the rewards that Christ will give when we get to heaven? We will fall, we will suffer pain, and we will feel defeated, but we can get back up and run the race. Even the youth will faint and be weary but we know that the Author and Finisher of our faith waits at the finish line and he is cheering us on as we run toward him.
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
-Hebrews 12:1-2
Most people can start our running a race but it takes a true champion to finish the race and to receive the gold. Gold, silver, and bronze; which position are you in? Go for the gold; race toward Jesus.

This is such a good reminder! We are running a race for Him and must never forget the prize to be won - eternity by His side.
