Remember when it Rained?
Friday, February 5, 2010
Three crosses, agonizing death, and one Savior. The sky darkens as the Man on the center cross lifts his eyes to heaven and takes the sin of the world. Thunder rumbles, people weep, and the rain falls; it is finished. I often think that that storm on the day of Christ Crucifixion was a sign of God's pain at the death of his only Son. The raindrops were like tears-tears that fell from the face of a Holy God as watched Jesus suffer and die so that you and I might have forgiveness for our sins. How easily we forget the agony of Jesus Christ and often we become complacent in our salvation from sin and death. We forget that Jesus Christ became a man so that he could defeat Satan and make a way for us to break free from the bondage of sin.
For the Wages of Sin is Death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
-Romans 6:23
Jesus Christ was not obliged to die for us but he did because his love for us compelled him to die in our stead. We were not entitled to salvation, it was given as a gift of high price. What would you and I have thought if we had stood on the hill of Golgotha and watched as our wickedness was placed on a perfect God? Would we have felt the falling rain and not desired to be washed in the blood of the Lamb or would we have bowed our head and prayed for the salvation that had been accomplished on that cross? Would we later have forgotten that scene that we experienced? I would hope that we would have never ceased to remember the death of our Savior. As we live each day that God has given us let us not forget the One who died so that we might have life. Never forget the rain that fell as our Savior washed away our sin with his drops of his cleansing blood.
The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying:“ Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.

P.S. Is the title of this post, by any chance, from a Josh Groban song? ;)
