Facing facebook
Thursday, January 13, 2011
If you are like me, you probably have a facebook page. I'm not a facebook addict. Quite frankly I still prefer a handwritten letter and face-to-face conversation instead of those instant messages and status updates. Christians, it is time we confronted the facts: facebook can damage our Christian testimony.
If you think that your friends don't read what you have stated as your religious views then you are disillusioned. People know what we say we believe. While posting about how much you hate the fact that costumer service agents don't speak English or ranting about how ridiculous you think our government is may seem to be standard fare; it shouldn't be so for us. You won't win someone to Christ by making rude comments about others.
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
-Psalm 19:14
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
-Psalm 19:14
We need to be living out a Christian life. Whether we are speaking with someone who is standing beside us it is important that we be like we ought to be. I notice what others post on facebook and it pains me when I see Christians post things that do not always reflect well upon our Savior. I would exhort us all to think twice before we post that picture that would embarrass the other person or before we post a slightly demeaning comment about another individual.
Be a good friend online and in reality and don't forget that God sees and others are watching. Keep it lovely, of good report, and don't forget to check your spelling. =^)

awesome post for FB. I don't have one, but its one of the reasons I don't.
I couldn't agree more. I have a facebook, and I try my best to keep a good testimony. Thank you for the reminder!
I don't use facebook, but that is a very good point; really, we could apply that to blogger too, making sure our comments and posts are God-glorifying!
I aggree completely!! I don't have a FB nor do I want one. Thanks!
Hey, I just came across your blog by doing a bit of blog-surfing, and I'm glad I did! I've added myself as your newest follower, and I hope you'll check out my Christian devotional site as well: wwwnocondemnation81.blogspot.com
Have a blessed day!

I couldn't agree more Elizabeth - thanks for the excellent post. :)
I can't tell you how many times I have had to block things from people who I know are strong believers. Every time we get on, we should think about how a post will look to others and to our heavenly Father.
Hi, I just stopped by from another blog. I am glad to find someone stating the fact about FB. I used to have an account (shared with my sisters) but then we closed it.
It wasted too much of our time. And it's also a source of worldliness for many.
Thanks for the post.
I totally agree. I can't believe what happens on there and I try to think before I type.
I love your header! It is great!
Thanks for the comment also.

Hi Elizabeth,
I just found your blog through a comment you had left on Rebekah's (Heritage of Grace). This was a great post about Facebook ~ Thank for sharing. I don't personally have a FB, but it's a good reminder to make sure that all of our online communcations (whether that be Twitter, FB, blogs, or anything else) be a demonstration of the Salvation God has given us!
In Christ,
Amy
How true this is! I do use FB and have been able to reconnect with old friends & distant (miles, that is) family. But I, too, have to occasionally block some posts of young friends. My brother is not a Christian, but he reads the posts on my page. We must be good stewards of the opportunies & tools we've been given. This includes FB & other social networks.
Enjoyed your posts very much.
